From the President's Desk

I am preparing this article in mid-April in the midst of preparations for all of our planned TS children's summer activities. We are preparing for our annual meeting in June, which includes election of officers for the 2000-01 term. We are seeking a new meeting site as we are no longer able to use the facilities at Providence Hospital. (EDITOR'S NOTE: We found a new meeting site.)

We have just completed the busiest 60 day period of activity in our Chapter's history. This has been a period marked by more positive accomplishments that we could have possibly hoped for at the beginning of the year. It started in mid-February:

TSA members, I encourage you to read the chairpersons` reports on these most significant events. We are happy and, at the same time, exhausted.

The nominating committee has come up with a slate of candidates for office in the coming year. Yes, there is a nomination for the office of president. I have recently decided to not seek re-election. In addition to an ever increasing volume of activity in my own business, I believe that it is time for fresh leadership and new directions. Our Chapter has grown in many positive ways in the past three years, and I have concerns about the continuation of programs and services begun during this period. But I am just as certain that a new president will enter the office with his or her own list of priorities and personal definitions of how the organization can best serve the membership needs. I am also certain the new president will continue to depend on the member-volunteers to carry out the work of committees in the three service areas, Support, Education and Public Awareness, as well as the necessary fund-raising and membership activities.

I hope to see all of you at the June 9 Oakland County meeting. There will be an abbreviated support meeting and then the election of officers will take place at 8:00 p.m.. I hope you will take the opportunity to thank all of the officers who have served the needs of the membership this past year. Without their efforts, we could have accomplished nothing.

Respectfully submitted,
Art Abbott
